Abilene is the home of the West Texas Drone Workshop 2019. Situated just a couple hours west of DFW, its central location makes it a reasonable drive from most locations.

  • FRONTIER TEXAS  – Located in historic downtown Abilene, Frontier Texas is a western heritage center that allows visitors to relive the Old West through the magic of state-of-the-art technology. Frontier Texas brings the frontier to life and lets visitors meet people who played out their lives on the Texas frontier. Frontier Texas also serves as the official visitor center for Abilene and the Texas Forts Trail Region.
  • GRACE MUSEUM – The historic building that currently houses The Grace Museum was built in 1909 as the Grace Hotel, a large full service hotel and the finest located on the railroad line between Fort Worth and El Paso. The hotel was renamed The Drake in 1946 and flourished until the 1960s as downtown Abilene declined, and as passenger train travel greatly diminished. The hotel closed permanently in 1973. By the 1980s the building was in ruin and inhabited by rats, vagrants, and cats. In the 1980s a group of visionaries sought to restore downtown Abilene beginning with the historic Paramount Theater.
  • PARAMOUNT THEATRE – Built in 1930 by H. O. Wooten, the Paramount is the only structure of its grandeur between El Paso and Fort Worth. The theatre was fully restored and renovated in 1986 and now stands as an icon for the revitalization of the city’s downtown district as well as a nostalgic glimpse into our nation’s cinematic and theatrical past.Since its creation, the theatre has been the home to a myriad of events including films, concerts, musical productions, opera, dance, private parties and corporate meetings. The building’s outstanding techincal facilites and unique atmosphere make it one of the showcase theatres of the Southwest.
  • ABILENE ZOO – Discover the wonderful world of wildlife at the Abilene Zoo! Home to more than 1,000 animals from around the globe, a visit to the Abilene Zoo is filled with fun and excitement for animal lovers of all ages.
  • HISTORIC FORT PHANTOM HILL – Located in present-day Jones County, Fort Phantom Hill is one of the most pristine historic sites in Texas. It was one of the second line of forts laid out in the early 1850’s to protect the westward-moving frontier of Texas settlement.
  • NATIONAL CENTER FOR CHILDREN’S ILLUSTRATED LITERATURE – The National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature collaborates with award-winning illustrators to produce exhibitions of their artwork that are distinctive, appealing to museum visitors of all ages, and of the highest quality. In addition to this unique artistic partnership, following its debut at the NCCIL gallery, each exhibition travels to museums, public libraries, and galleries nationwide.
